To celebrate the year 2000, artist and teacher Margaret Watt worked with pupils at Kennyhill School Glasgow, on a Millennium Art Project. They made 11 works which celebrate some of the civilisations, religions, inventions and discoveries which were part of the last two thousand years and 1 work which looks to the future.
They researched the topic, made drawings and had their designs cut out of hard board. To decorate the works they recycled a whole lot of collected materials such as, bubble wrap, string, tissue paper, out of date foods - lentils, cous cous, bird food, spices, tea - iron filings, glitter, corrugated card, twigs, seed heads, dried flowers, coconut shell, scrap paper, leather scraps, broken mirror, mosaic tile fragments, glass chippings and feathers. Their work is now on permanent display in the school.
The pupils are: Maria Blackshaw, Leonard Brannigan, David Bryce, Ian Donald, Roseanne Fraser, Nicola Gunn, Teresa Jackson, Eddie McGinlay, Stewart McNeil, Graham Milligan, Cheryl Pollock, Joseph Smith, Ryan Strang, Robert Wagstaff and Joanna White.
