1) The Maya, Aztec and Inca were some of the great civilisations of the American continent before the 15th century when the Europeans arrived.
2) In 1776 the American states became united. The USA flag has 13 stripes for the original 13 states and 50 stars for the current 50 states.

3) The Vikings explored the world in the 6th 7th and 8th centuries in long boats with ornately carved figureheads.
4) The Roman Empire reached Britain in the 1st and 2nd centuries AD. Julius Caesar laid down the basis of the calendar that we use today.
